Several CBD towers win CTBUH awards
The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat have recognised multiple Melbourne CBD towers in their annual awards.
The winners were announced at the CTBUH annual conference in Chicago, and included:
- Olderfleet by Grimshaw Architects for ‘Best tall building 100-199 metres.’
- Collins Arch by Woods Bagot and Shop Architects for ‘Best tall mixed-use building’ and ‘Best tall building.’
- Wesley Place by Cox Architecture for ‘Urban Habitat – District/Master Plan Scale.’
- 55 Southbank Boulevard by Bates Smart for the ‘Renovation award.’
The David Rubenstein Forum at the University of Chicago was the overall winner of the competition, taking out the award for ‘Best tall building worldwide.’
CTBUH CEO Javier Quintana de Una explained the importance of recognising excellence in tall buildings:
“With the United Nations projecting nearly 70 percent urbanization by 2050, the demand is growing for healthier, more sustainable, and socially just urban environments—tall buildings and other smart, resilient approaches to population density are an integral part of the solution.
“The projects selected for our yearly Award of Excellence competition represent the most advanced concepts and technologies currently employed around the world.”
