In this first episode of Season 3, I was joined by Simon McCarthy, Principal Engineer and Adam Jordan, the Asia Pacific Lead who both work at Bryden Wood. A multi-national company and a pioneer in the MMC (Modern Methods of Construction) and the Platform approach to DfMA (Design for Manufacture and Assembly).
In this episode of the podcast, we discuss the difference between MMC and DfMA, on-site vs off-site construction, the uptake of MMC in Australia and the capabilities influences and trends in the Australian Pre-fabricated construction space.
Since there is a huge potential market for off-site construction and site installed work, Adam and Simon broke down the individual parts of how this can be developed, its considerations, and the additional design that goes into it. We covered the BIM modelling and the additional requirements around design, 3D, 4D, and 5D design, and how that provides an up-to-date programme of works, programme of costings, and assist with every element.
Amongst other things in this podcast, we discussed:
- Construction methodologies
- What is a prefabricated building?
- Any other philosophies that exist as an opportunity for builders, developers, and consulting firms to construction space
- BIM process supporting DfMA and MMC
