In this week’s podcast episode, we speak with Jono Conley, the Director of Concise Recruitment and one of Melbourne’s most successful recruiters in the commercial construction building space.

Jono has the best part of 20 years of expertise recruiting in the construction industry, both here in Melbourne and in the UK.  He is well known for his honest and straight-shooting communication style and for getting straight to the point in any topic. He is an expert in the field and has extensive market knowledge – who better to end season 2 of the Building Talks Podcast, talking with?!?

We talk about a variety of topics, including hiring expectations, luring candidates to your company, the mistakes hiring businesses make in enticing new talent, how long the talent shortage we’re currently experiencing in the built environment will last, what employers can do and shouldn’t do to entice talent, temporary contingent and retained recruitment methods, and why retained recruitment produces such great results for the employer.

Amongst other things in this podcast, we discussed:

  • The difficulties of a career in recruitment and why so many fail within 2 years
  • What should an employer and employee expect in a recruitment process
  • Expectations from the recruitment process (who can you hire, who is out of reach)
  • Mistakes that employers make when it comes to the interview process
  • Brand equity – understanding your position in the market

Are you a hiring manager or business leader?  Or, potentially considering a new role at some point in the near future?  Then there are loads of ‘take aways’ in this episode for what and how you can apply a better recruitment process, or secure a better employer!
