The developers who illegally demolished the Corkman Pub in 2016 have submitted a planning application for a new development at the Carlton site.

Developers Stefce Kutlesovski and Raman Shaqiri were fined $1.1 million and ordered to serve 30 days of jail time for razing the heritage-listed pub without a permit. The demolition came after a suspicious fire in the pub the week before.

Six years after the illegal demolition – and with fines and jail time behind them – the developers hope to construct a new three-storey hospitality establishment.

The venue will include multiple kitchens, bars, terraces, and patron seating.

The design itself pays tribute to the former pub through the use of form, material, and colour — though whether the general public agrees with that sentiment remains to be seen.

A park currently occupies the site, paid for by the developers at a cost of $1.6 million.
