Australia’s largest dedicated regional performing arts centre has opened in Geelong after almost four years of construction.

The $140 million development follows refurbishment of two other key venues: the Playhouse Theatre in 2010 and the Ryrie Street facilities in 2019. Together, they make up a decades-long project to transform the precinct into a regional cultural hub.

This latest piece of the puzzle features two new theatres, new bars and event spaces, and a restaurant called Tutti.

ARM Architecture was the principal architect for the project. Its design draws heavily on Geelong’s history, circus and theatre traditions, and First Nations culture. Indigenous artists based on Wadawurrung Country were chosen to create artwork embedded into the design.

More than 1,000 events have already been booked at the centre following two sellout Grand Opening Showcases.
