The redevelopment of Melbourne Polytechnic has kicked off this week with a groundbreaking ceremony at the Collingwood Campus.

Donald Cant Watts Corke, who will be project managing the redevelopment, was joined onsite by several key figures – including the Hon. Richard Wynne MP, Minister for Training, Skills and Higher Education Gayle Tierney, and Melbourne Polytechnic CEO Frances Coppolillo.

Minister Gayle Tierney unveiled an artist’s impression of the project at the ceremony. Designed by Tectura Architects, the plans include state-of-the-art teaching and learning spaces, contemporary collaboration and library spaces, front-of-house services, and student services. Building Engineering Pty Ltd will construct it.

The project was made possible by a $40 million investment from the Andrews Labour Government. Speaking on behalf of her government, Minister Gayle Tierney expressed the importance of the project.

“This project will give thousands of Victorians access to world-class vocational education and training – securing more workers in priority industries and building key skills for the future.”

Frances Coppolillo echoed the minister’s sentiments.

“The project will breathe new life into this campus. It will provide much-needed future-focused education and training opportunities for the community and contribute to the vibrancy of the dynamic Collingwood precinct.”

Construction is expected to finish in late 2023, with students returning to the campus in 2024.
