The Australian Government has released their top 10 most in-demand jobs for the next five years – and Construction Managers and Civil Engineering Professionals are at the top of the list. The line-up was released by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese ahead of the Jobs and Skills Summit, scheduled for 1-2 September.
The forum brings together unions, employers, civil society, and governments to address common economic challenges, and comes amidst a severe skills shortage across Australia – particularly in the built environments industry.
An issues paper released by the Government ahead of the summit highlights five broad themes for discussion:
- maintaining full employment and growing productivity
- boosting job security and wages
- lifting participation and reducing barriers to employment
- delivering a high‑quality labour force through skills, training, and migration
- maximising opportunities in the industries of the future.
Construction Managers jobs & Civil Engineers Jobs are in demand
The inclusion of construction managers and civil engineering professionals on the list reflects trends witnessed in our own recent experience at Building Environs. We have seen a substantial drop in applications over 2021 and 2022, resulting in a talent shortage across the industry. This is changing with a significant upswing in applications from overseas.
Good news for the Government who, in the Jobs Summit issues paper, have written that “well-targeted migration can help boost our workforce and economic growth.” It remains to be seen whether employers in the property and construction industry will reflect the Government’s enthusiasm.
