Concept designs for new infectious diseases centre unveiled
The building design and location for the new Australian Institute for Infectious Disease (AIID) has been unveiled, bringing the project one step closer to fruition.
Designed by Wardle and engineered by Aurecon, the designs enable collaboration between the institute’s Foundation Partners: the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity, the Burnet Institute, and the University of Melbourne.
The AIID will support groundbreaking research into life-saving therapeutics, diagnostics and vaccines. It will also include dedicated spaces for drug screening and critical imaging not currently available in Australia.
Works are scheduled to commence next year. 350 jobs will be created in the design and construction phase, with AIID housing more than 1,000 scientists, academics, students and public health experts at completion.
