Design Manager (Fit-out & New Build) | PLACED

This Design Manager has in excess of 20 years of working within the construction and property sector as an Architect, Project Architect, Project Manager, Director, and Principal.

His project experience spans new build, refurbishment, and fit-out projects. More recently, he’s been involved in Aged Care and Senior living projects in addition to education and retail developments.

Over the years, he has delivered a wide variety of projects including sports and leisure facilities, hotels, multi-storey apartments, warehouses, and just about everything in between.

Further, he has worked across all stages of design and delivery from concept through to construction and on projects within the 1 million to $100 million value.

More recently, he’s handled a role managing the stakeholders across the design elements of many projects. He works in a hands-on capacity and takes responsibility for his own projects as well as managing a team of design and engineering professionals overseeing all their complexities and design issues across a portfolio of projects.

A very pragmatic analytical and solution-focused character, he has a strong understanding of the architectural elements required to deliver good-looking projects, but he’s also pragmatic enough to understand the nuts and bolts of ensuring that the project is financially successful for the Principal Contractor.

Self-assured and confident without being egotistical, he is well suited to design management work where he interacts with multiple stakeholders but also protects the position of the Head Contractor. Key skills include:

• Leadership coaching, mentoring, and coordinating of design staff
• Managing projects through the full lifecycle of the project through feasibility, design development, concept, documentation, tender negotiation, pre-construction, and construction
• Has worked across design and construct early contractor involvement and construct only projects
• Comfortable across a variety of project types
• Comfortable in leadership roles providing strategic guidance on human resources as well as project deliverables
