The Victorian Government has announced plans for a new motorsports precinct adjacent to Avalon Airport.

The 150-hectare plot will be developed to host racing from several disciplines – from grassroots competition to elite events. Motorsport Australia will provide guidance on the project.

An initial $1.6 million investment from the Victorian Government will cover the design and planning of the facility. The total project is expected to cost $250 million.

Motorsport in Victoria supports more than 4,300 jobs. The total number of annual events can top 1,000 – including international blockbusters like the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix and the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix.

In making the announcement, Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos said, “Motorsport is a great Victorian passion and pastime for many, and it also supports thousands of jobs and delivers significant economic benefits to our state.”
