The forthcoming Geelong Convention and Exhibition Centre has been gifted a new title from the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation: Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Event Centre.

Nyaal Banyul means ‘open your eyes to the hills.’ The name was chosen to encourage visitors to the centre to pause and appreciate the landscapes of Wadawurrung Country.

Plenary Conventions – the firm delivering the project – is working with Wadawurrung Traditional Owners to incorporate their culture, values and knowledge into the building and public areas through co-design.

Construction of the venue is slated to commence later this year and will be completed in 2026. The Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Trust will operate the centre, hosting a range of events, including corporate, sports and entertainment events, as well as live music and public exhibitions.
