Victorian Labor has released new planning controls for central Geelong this week, providing capacity for 60,000 jobs and 16,000 residents by 2050.

The Central Geelong Framework Plan – A Plan for the heart of Djilang 2022 focuses on the growth and development of Geelong’s city centre, providing guidance for future building design – and scale.

The plan outlines a vision for a central city that provides jobs, services, housing and landmark destinations for the region’s residents. The plan also identifies continued improvements to Geelong’s streets and public spaces.

Member for Geelong, Christine Couzens, highlighted the intention of the new planning controls: “We’re ensuring growth in Geelong is appropriate, directed to the right areas and protects what makes our city such a great place.”

The Framework Plan complements existing projects, like the next stages of the Malop Street Green Spine, the Arts and Culture precinct, and the future Exhibition and Convention Centre. It came into effect immediately through an amendment to the Greater Geelong Planning Scheme.
