New and improved Wonthaggi Hospital opens its doors.
Kane Constructions has put to bed another vital health project, with the updated Wonthaggi Hospital officially opening its doors this week.
The new facility features more emergency department treatment spaces, inpatient beds, and increased surgical capacity. There are also 32 new inpatient beds and 18 additional emergency department treatment spaces – which will treat an extra 26,000 emergency patients a year.
Other notable features include three new theatres and a procedure room, as well as additional car parking and a new central energy plant.
Minister for Health, Mary-Anne Thomas, was present at the opening and proud of the government’s contribution to the project.
“We’re making sure the dedicated doctors, nurses and support staff at Wonthaggi Hospital have access to the best facilities to support them in their vital and life-saving work.”
Kane Construction was awarded the $76 million lump sum contract in late 2020. It follows a string of other health projects being delivered by the tier-one firm, including the St Vincent’s Private Hospital Fitzroy project, and the Paula Fox Melanoma Centre.
