Lendlease has won unanimous approval from the City of Melbourne to construct an office and retail building on the corner of Flinders and Swanston Streets.
The office and retail hub will sit over the new metro tunnel entrance, wrapping around the iconic Young and Jackson Hotel.
In considering the application, Cr Nicholas Reece said that the council was making decisions about “the most famous intersection in Australia.”
“The civic square, the station, the church and the pub. It doesn’t get any more Australian than that.”
Features of the development will include:
- 16,502 square metres of lettable office space
- 2,027 square metres of lettable retail space
- Pedestrian access to the new CBD South Metro station
- A 6 Star Green Star Design and As Built rating
- A 5 Star NABERS Energy rating
- 162 bike spaces
The project site is owned by the Department of Transport and the Victorian government. The application is now with the state planning department for final approvals.
